Mares, foals, weanlings and yearlings can be agisted all year round. All are wormed and vaccinated regularly. Many mares just come to visit during the stud season to be served by our resident stallions. Because good nutrition is such an important part of equine health, agistment rates can vary according to seasonal conditions.
It is important to give every mare the best possible chance to conceive. We employ our own vet for reproduction work. Treatment for illness, injury, drugs and any specialised uterine treatments will be charged under separate account at the cheapest possible price.
Veterinary surgeon David Pascoe BVSc is currently working at Egmont Park Stud.
We are pleased that David has chosen to continue his association with the stud and look forward
to a busy breeding season.
The stud will continue to employ a nightwatchperson during the stud season to assist each mare in foaling. A trained professional ensures that foals get their required colostrum within four hours of foaling and then feed regularly every two hours.
At weaning foals are taught to tie up, lead and generally be handled.
David Pike will be responsible for the preparation of all our quality weanlings and yearlings.
Computer test matings for your mare can be completed free of charge.
Freeze branding of all weanlings is carried out at the stud regularly during the stud season.
Semen Transport (Standardbreds)
A very successful semen transport service has been established to all states of Australia. Semen is sent by overnight courier to most destinations. Vets and studs receiving semen for mares must be registered with the applicable state harness racing authority. Costs for carriers vary according to day of the week, urgency and destination.
Semen can be ordered from any interstate stallions as required. A one-off semen transport working fee applies.
Frozen semen (Standardbreds)
Can be ordered from selected stallions throughout Australia.
